I.C.B.M.
a tribute to Tom Lehrer
Tom Lehrer was a brilliant songwriter and satirist, who has recently passed away. While much of his song-writing and performing career took place over 60 years ago, his songs remain timely. Now seems like a good time to take a fresh look at the bright side of extinction, a sentiment Tom would have appreciated. I (and AI) have taken the liberty of making a song inspired by his classic “We will all go together when we go”. I call the song I.C.B.M. The title and some of the music echo Y.M.C.A. by the Village People. It is, as Lehrer used to say, guaranteed to cheer you up. For that reason (among others, which I will not list here) I don’t recommend listening to this effort.
It would be a crime not to include a link to his original masterpiece
Unfortunately, while the themes of many of his songs like Send the Marines are timeless, some of the lyrics have not aged well. Lines such as
U.N. and O.A.S
They have their place, I guess
or
Members of the corps
All hate the thought of war
They'd rather kill them off by peaceful means
belong to a different, bygone age. Nevertheless here is the original song.
